The tale of "Sacred Cat of Burma" begins in 1919. Two Birman cats found their way to France. Previous to this, in Burma (currently Myanmar) there has been seen that there were hundreds of white cats who lived in the temple of Lao-Tsun. Sinh was one of these white cats. Sinh joined Mun-Ha, a priest and worshiper to the temple of Tsim-Kyan-Kse for prayers every evening . There was a day when intruders from Siam raided the temple for its treasures and attacked Mun-Ha. The story has it that when Sinh put his paw on Mun-Ha's dying body and looked at the statute of Tsim-Kyan-Kse, he's white fur started to change into a golden hue color. It's tail, legs and its face started do darken (ranges from light brown to very dark brown) but it's paws remain white as snow, due to Mun-Ha's pure spirit. All of the other cats went through the same change as well.

There are many different accounts of the history of the Birman, in the end Birmans were found in the 1920's in France where the breed was officially recognized. Although with the World War II, the Birmans almost went extinct but were resurrected in the 1950s in England. In 1967, the breed was officially recognized in the United States.

Birmans are extremely obedient and loyal, given their alleged background. Their joy is being around others and being social. The curiosity is in a friendly demeanor rather than one of fear. Birmans are very open cats are willing to love you as long as you love them back. Their breed has long and stocky build is covered with medium long to long soft fur.
