Ace is a powerful pirate deserving of a high bounty, but the person who killed him is one of the top admirals of the Navy and just happens to be even more powerful. As mentioned in the manga, Admiral Akainu has the power of magma (not fire) which is stronger than Ace's fire powers. And that's why Ace was killed "so easy." And yeah... kinda sucked that he had to die.
